Monday night will see a clash of two of FCS’s most accomplished prizefighters. What is the payoff? Earning a national title is a tremendous accomplishment in collegiate athletics.
In the 2025 FCS Championship, North Dakota State (13-2) will face off against Montana State (15-0). This game is a repeat of the championship match between the Bobcats and the Bison from 2021, and it will take place at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas. Although the game took a surprising turn when Montana State quarterback Tommy Mellott left the game in the first series with an ankle injury, the outcome of the clash still went in favor of North Dakota State 38-10.
With nine championships in the last thirteen years, the Bison are unrivaled as FCS’s dominant force. They were defeated in the title game by rival South Dakota State two years ago and again in the semifinals last year, meaning they have gone trophyless for the last two seasons in a row. Tim Polasek’s squad is as strong as ever with Cam Miller at the helm of the offensive line.

Mellott and the Bobcats must be vanquished for this to happen. This is the second perfect season in FCS history, and Montana State is aiming for their first championship since 1984. The lead is being held by Mellott, who was named the top offensive player in FCS after defeating Miller and Targhee Lambson of Southern Utah. You can see why he was so highly regarded just by looking at his stat line: With 43 touchdowns (29 passing, 14 rushing), Mellott was responsible for little more than 3,500 yards of offense. Additionally, in his first fifteen games, he recorded only two interceptions.
