THE BIG Apple — If the Giants are interested in Shedeur Sanders or Cam Ward as their future franchise quarterback, they would be wise to hope that the Browns continue to have faith in Deshaun Watson, who is showing signs of decline.
The Giants secured the third overall choice in the 2025 NFL Draft thanks to Sunday’s 20-13 loss to the Eagles and the Patriots’ victory against the Bills.
Their pursuit of one of the top two quarterbacks in the class got them closer than they were earlier in the day, when they were ranked fourth.
The problem for the Giants is that the Titans, who are ranked first, will almost certainly be looking to replace their franchise quarterback, Will Levis, after two disappointing seasons.
Next, the second-seeded Browns will have to make a decision: either trade up to the Giants or the highest bidder, draft a non-quarterback with impact who can lead the franchise to the playoffs again after a three-year absence, or utilize the pick to get serious competition for Watson.
Had last week’s Giants loss to the Colts not occurred, things would be a lot easier.
After Saturday’s loss to the Ravens, the Giants had no chance of passing the Browns.
Not only did the Giants lose, but the Titans also lost (against the Texans). Due to having the strongest strength of schedule, the Giants were unable to defeat the other 3-14 teams in tiebreakers.
In scouting circles, opinions on Sanders and Ward are divided.
Sanders is certain he will be taken first overall, according to one NFL Network report, but several NFL scouts do not think he is good enough for the first round.
An NFC scout told The Post, “They should be first-round picks.” Two of the players were mentioned. While a top-five finish is out of the question, quarterbacks are always elevated in the process.
Sanders, Ward, and Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter might be selected in the first three rounds of the draft.
Hunter is the top prospect in the class at cornerback and receiver, so the Giants can only hope that the Browns give in to their charms and sign him.
In addition to the Giants, the Jets, Raiders, and Saints all have first-round draft choices and could be interested in trading up to get a quarterback.
The Giants have quarterback prospects that are anticipated to go in the second and third rounds, respectively, but there are a lot of questions surrounding those prospects.
